Although I did not know Stephen that well in high school, he became an invaluable addition to our 50th Reunion Steering Committee. Without his help the 50th reunion would never have been as successful as it was.

Stephen Jay Alterman Bank of Israel executive, Stonewall delegate, active with Garden State Equality Stephen Jay Alterman, 72, passed away on Jan. 23, 2017. Born in New York City and a graduate of Pace University, he had retired from his position at the Bank of Israel in New York City, and was co-owner of Butterfield 8 art gallery with his husband, the late Fred Reichenbach of South River, N.J. He was treasurer of Woodbridge Township's Barron Arts Center, a N.J. Stonewall alternate delegate at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colo., in 2008, board member of Garden State Equality and supported many LGBT and civil rights programs. Stephen was the son of the late Alexander Alterman and Freda Silber and brother of the late Harold Alterman. He was also predeceased by his husband, Scott E. Shields.
