How sad I was to hear about Jane losing her battle with cancer. I have followed her wonderful work with the carousel and am so glad she lived to see it become the centerpiece of the area. It is now such a monument to her life and dedication. Having last seen Jane at our fiftieth high school reunion I remember how much she still seemed like the girl we knew at Teaneck High School. In high school she already carried herself with a sophistication, style, and a sense of self that was certainly rare in high school girls. All those traits and her wonderful signature hairstyle were still so evident at our reunion. My condolences to her husband and son. May your memories sustain you.

For the THS website:  a second memory:

Jane rises clearly in my mind with memories of ‘The Best of Times’ in Teaneck as we shared our teen years. My fondest remembrances include sorority days as we built relationships, mixing personalities & activities at school, pools, homes, parties, & in the town itself. These were the times that formed our core selves, our beliefs & our visions as we joined together as young women, the same but different!

Jane’s wit, intelligence, authenticity, & talent shone quietly & brightly. I can still see her amazing smile & hear her distinctive laugh!

Keeping in touch was sadly, only through our Class of ‘62 connections & reunions. Reuniting in person at our last reunion was a delight as we shared memories & our mutual life focus on the Arts.

Jane’s Carousel, indeed, stands as the embodiment of Jane’s remarkable spirit, commitment & energy to the past, present & future by...

Jane has made a lasting impression on the many lives she has touched. She made a lasting & lovely impression on my life as well.

It is with cherished thoughts & warmest memories that I send my deepest sympathy to you, her dearest.

May the light of Jane forever live within you & May that light continue to shine through your sorrow.

Because of our shared interest in art, Jane and I were good friends. I remember working with her on the yearbook and was always impressed with how she managed to get things done! But we didn't stay in touch after high school.

When I moved to Brooklyn in 1996, I was very aware of the amazing neighborhood she and her husband created in Dumbo. I did speak to her a few times but we never had a chance to get together. I followed her work on the carousel and was so impressed by her dedication to the original details of the restoration. And being a lover of both horses AND carousels, I couldn't wait to see the finished project. As you can see from the photo above, it was a joy to ride!

RIP, dear Jane and I hope you are riding horses wherever you are!

One of my favorite memories of childhood is playing double solitaire at Jane’s house. We would walk home from school and Jane’s mother would welcome us, feed us a snack, and we’d play cards. Another wonderful memory was when Jane and I got a large heart from the butcher shop and dissected it in our science class. We collaborated well on the project, learned a lot, and had fun. Jane had a calmness about her that balanced out her keen sense of interest in everything around her. What a loss.

Jane and I met in junior high. She was smart, kind, and funny. Her laugh was infectious and we laughed a lot! Silly teenage girls. I recall sleepovers at her house, 9th grade parties, our
“Sorority”, and double dating in high school. She was a fun person with an easy going nature. She was easy to like! After high school we lost touch but she remained someone special from my youth.

I am not surprised at Jane’s success in adulthood. She was very talented. I am so saddened that she is gone.
